The initial issue was to protect the sheep scale at the fairgrounds from further deterioration due to weather. After surveying the area we realized the entire area needed to be cleaned up and made more presentable to the public. We were able to achieve both goals with our project.
How has 4-H Helped?
The first phase of the project required the clearing and leveling of the area in preparation for the paving. Our first work day had us digging, raking and shoveling to accomplish this. Once the area was level we had to dig holes in which to set the posts for the roof. Prior to the actual construction, the lumber had to be primed and painted. The final detail of the structure was to add the roofing material. The paving around the structure was completed by a member's parent with equipment and supplies given at a greatly reduced price. The final phase of the project was to install an iron bench and fill colorful pots with flowers and ivy.
The participants in this project felt a great deal of accomplishment and pride on its completion . . .
The participants in this project felt a great deal of accomplishment and pride on its completion by being able to give something worthwhile and long lasting to the fairgrounds and the community. Our fairground is central to the Auburn community and used for many kinds of activities and community events and being able to add to the overall success of our fairgrounds is something of which we can be proud.
