Within youth leadership organizations, young people step up to volunteer but feel ill-equipped to lead due to lack of knowledge and experience.
How has 4-H helped?
4-H Student Leadership Delegates and All Star Ambassadors held a one day Youth Leadership Conference focusing on skill building to give youth leaders the tools to dynamically lead their club or organization to success
The El Dorado County 4-H All Stars utilized a civic engagement grant to conduct the Leadership Conference where youth from El Dorado County received training on leadership and parliamentary procedure; learned to set goals both personally and within an organization; and how to incorporate citizenship, healthy living and science into any organization, club or project.
The Leadership Conference allowed youth members to interact with other leaders across the county and gather skills that will benefit their organization as well as build character, community and camaraderie. Youth in 4-H, student council, Boy Scouts and FFA attended this event. Youth felt the conference was very useful. Parents remarked that they hoped this conference would be an annual activity. Youth remarked that they felt closer to other conference attendees by the close of the event
