Meet John Trammel
4-H Alum and Volunteer
I feel it is important for me to share my 4-H story because the 4-H program has shaped me into a strong individual ready for whatever challenges life throws my way.
Because of 4-H, I now have outstanding public speaking skills, a mastery of technology, leadership skills, and a love of photography. –John
In July of 2006, I had a life changing experience when I represented 4-H at the ESRI User’s Conference in San Diego. I worked with 5 other 4-H youth on a massive presentation about 4-H and Geographical Information Systems Mapping Projects. We did our presentation during the event’s main plenary session with an audience of 13,000 people representing 92 different countries from around the world. That was an experience of a lifetime that would have never been possible for me without 4-H.
Because of 4-H, I now have outstanding public speaking skills, a mastery of technology, leadership skills, and a love of photography. My photography skills have given me the opportunity to earn some money to help me with my college expenses. My 4-H experiences have led me to choose college with a focus on Public Administration, minoring in Environmental Studies with a goal of going on to a master’s degree in Geographical Information Systems. I fell in love with mapping technology when 4-H introduced it to me at the 2004 National 4-H Technology Conference in St. Louis, MO. I now plan to pursue my master’s at University of Redlands and work in the Environmental Management Field. What could be better than doing mapping projects that help towards protecting the environment?
Without a doubt, 4-H helped develop my leadership abilities, confidence and allowed me to grow into the person I am today. I believe 4-H to be the best, well-rounded, youth program available in California. I am living proof of that program.
